cheers!

Wanted to say thanks to everyone for continuing to visit the blog, and also for getting the Dead Men Walking blog off to a great start back in March.
No idea what 2011 will bring, hopefully less artfaggyness, and less of blogs telling me what supposedly good graff looks like, even though some work done last week looks like something from 1972.
I havent had chance to speak to my man Len much in the past week due to me having final stage HIV, (well it feels like it), but as long as he keeps pumping out the show every friday, there will be a download shortly after!
Also after some desktop disaster I accidentally deleted the latest 60 min tracks! I know, call me cockosaurus rex, but it wont be long till another one is up and avaialble for DL.

We will continue to give you the real shit..

ROCK CITY REUNION!= 11th december 2010!!!

Photobucket

Im looking forward to this one in a big way, even just to see the same faces from 1984!
I went to the first reunion jam in 91, and it went down as one of my fave all time jams, as bboys from all over the uk came to relive the golden days of the saturday afternoon jams.
Make sure you reach this, as it will be one for the history books. All proceeds go towards the production of NG83, the history of nottingham hip hop in film!

DJ Semantik- Book of Breaks and Holdin Court

Inside you’ll find exactly 100 original Hip Hop samples & breaks mixed together using 100% vinyl records with absolutely no reprints. While I can’t say that all of the joints appearing in the mix are rare or difficult to find, they are all complete masterpieces of musical creation.
As for a tracklist, its just something thats kept close to a DJ's chest..
..but one of them is window raisin’ granny by Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Soleheaven: DJ swerve mix

Abit about the people who brought you this mix:
Soleheaven is a website for the aspiring Sneaker pimp/collector who sponsors bboy events. The site http://www.soleheaven.com/ will keep you update on the latest product ranges and also does a great line in limited editions. They have decided to interview a few djs, and ask them to come up with a short mix to give listeners an idea of their music tastes, and this is one such mix.

Swerve is a dj for Kiss FM London who has been around since the days of LL's Radio LP.
Here he mixes up some classic tunes from 88 to around 95, and its a very easy listen on the ears. Plenty of head nodders and no 140 bpm angry shouty Britcore in sight.
Ideal for parties as backing music if you havent got your own decks or great to roll up to.

Radio show: 29th October 2010

Dont forget, its the Koolpritz launch party at the Vines in Derby on 7th Nov for their new LP " The Sketch".
I have asked for the lads to get in touch and send some promo stuff over to try and get them some sales, so look out for that here soon.

Radio wise, due to a shortage of decent new tracks, Len digs in the crates to make us middle ages bboys grin like fuck.

radio show 15th october 10

Hey peeps, sorry for the long stint away and lack of updates. A small thing called work kinda took over my life for the last few months and I also lost my interweb connection for a few weeks. This meant I could record the show or update the blogs.
Hopefully, thats all sorted with this update of last nights show. I now have access to a backup pc should my connection fail again, so it should mean you wont miss a show in the future!
Thanks for sticking with me, and there will be a few more posts to come shortly.

You either like Banksy or you dont
Myself, Im not arsed. It is what it is. Like the movement he is involved in or not, this film turns the tables on the film maker Thierry and before you know it, he wants to become an artist himself. Fair enough, he does skip alot of the important parts of becoming a writer, like paying dues and putting the years in. The end result of making over 1 million dollars selling what is essentially other peoples art altered cant be sniffed at if turning your graff into a business is your thing.
But more importantly, the film asks the question why people are going mad for "street art" all of a sudden?
Its a well put together film that even non fans of street art will enjoy.

Blades mixtape 2010

Another year, another mixtape from the mighty Blades crew from Newcastle Australia.
Not your average hip hop mixtape, its a selection of tracks that have had some influence over the crews history and had some fun with them. Whn the Kelis joint dropped, I could see why they added it in, as it just made sense in this mix.
The monkey scratch is clever, and I enjoyed this alot.

60 min CD series volume 19

Slightly extended mix this time, due to a late spurt of decent findings on my travels and I also remembered some good uns. Please note that the Take em to War track by MF Grimm  plays from the vinyl distorted, please dont blame my recording levels as this is how it plays, also forgive a couple of nosies by Windows 7 in there as it was all recorded live, no back peddling for perfection here.. it was live and uncut.
Towards the end of the mix, theres a few more tuneful tracks to slow the mood down slightly before coming to an end with an unreleased Cappo track....you know the postcode!  Medicine fron Stylah uses the end theme from the Hulk to good effect but the stand out track for myself is the new Pack FM joint, which has a great sample.
Enjoy!

bboys at Fresh 98

10 mins of solid dancing.
Bboys Maurizio, Storm, Swift, Evo, Ken swift, and members of Out Of Control( Denmark) and Battle Squad( Germany) grace the stage for one awesome throwdown.
I was in the 3rd row, and not many acts that night got this kind of reception. The place exploded whrn Storm did his headspin.

Majesta -British Hip Hop rebuilds

Bristol old schoolers Hairy Parents DJ Majesta has been busy making a new album entitled British Hip Hop rebuilds, taking many a classic accapella (Hijack, Standing ovation and Mello, to name a few) and putting fresh new beats to them, with DJ Name manning the scratches, mixing and mastering.
Brings a new take on some of the tracks which like us old Britcore peoples, have mellowed with age...
Digging deep into his crates of British Hip Hop gold, polishing up the rare acapella's and getting busy on the MPC 2000 the producer/MC has completed this tall task with typical flare and ease.

It features all the expected classics and some more rarer slices of more underground 12 inches from back in the day.

The remixes are still brimming with the essence of the original British sound but in a more measured and sonically accessible fashion, allowing the vocals to stand out with much more clarity than the originals. Basically the beats are hard and the loops are dope (as always) which suit the original vocals well but breathe new life into these old gems to a point that you might find it hard to recall the original tunes at all!

great remix job.

props to Musical Schizo for the link

DJ Riz- the best shit Westwood played mix.

Put yourself back in 94 mode..
Hip Hop in the UK was strong as Geoff Capes, but some of the US music was heading towards the shit that was 2wac and Likkie Balls. Don get me wrong, 94 was a great year, but USA wise it wasnt strong.
So thank fuck that this mix came along. Even in 94 it was like.. thank fuck, someone recognises pre 89 rap.
In my eyes, this was the GREATEST EVER MIX WESTWOOD EVER PLAYED.
Fuck Funkmaster "droppin names" Flex.
This was it.
And after 16 years... still is it.
Great mix

UGSB gets a mention on Delusionists new track "Digital Connects"

Blogs.
The internet equivalent to those home made uk graff and music mags back in the early 90s.
There are loads of decent Uk blogs putting out info, news, music, video, pictures and making hundreds of people around the world aware of whats going on in that particular bloggers world. The Delusionists have compiled a list of their fave blogs and incorporated them into a flow. Check the video out for some of the blog you may or may not know about. Thanks to the guys for the mention, its not often I get feedback from anything I do on this blog, and this makes it worthwhile to know that at least some people are checking it out.

And if any blog wants to use ANYTHING I have ever posted, please feel free to do so, just give credit to the original place you got it from.

"This rap shit *Beats Laying About*,

To every *Hip Hop Connection Digital* direction providers

Repping *UK** All Day*,
Be careful ‘cause *Life Just Bounces* away
When you play with *Vocal Swords* that slaughter chumps,
*Better Wake Your Daughter Up*, if that bitch is sleeping.
Had to switch to a *Different Kitchen*,
‘Cause the raw *Unkut* left the kitchen reeking.
With something different to these drug-obsessed amateurs
And only push dope via *Suspect Packages*. (Yeah)

DJ Matter: UK dont rest.

A response to the suggestion that dope hiphop might no longer be being made in the UK. It's not on the radio or on the telly, but don't let that kid you. For the people making beats, spitting rhymes, and DJ's cutting it up, keep at it, produce quality music and you will succeed on the strength of your outputs. This mix is assembled from the stuff I know of that represents that quality output. If I don't know about it, get in touch. UK Don't Stop, UK Don't REST...

some different sounding uk tracks of late..and adjust your speakers in the first 30 secs.. its only Matter chopping the piano up!

Great Run DMC bio

Watched this for the first time on the Biography channel the other day and expected your normal corny biog, but this really took me by suprise. Besides the ususal struggle to fame, it goes into new territory by highlighting the darker sides of what happened when they got there, like Runs chronic depression.
Deffo worth a watch for a different look on one of raps supergroups.

DEAD SPACE is filmmakers Marielle "Lela" Quesney and Turf One's latest effort, documenting veteran Parisian graffiti writer Psyckoze and his experience in the Catacombs over the last 22 years. The Catacombs are 69 km's of abandoned tunnels, 100 feet below the city of Paris. The film is a portrait of Psyckoze through this abandoned urban landscape and a portrait of the space through the artist. Original music score by Simahlak ,Sixtoo ,Scott C ,Interceiving and more...
