After watching the video in class about the artists who draw graffiti on trains and buildings I was interested to learn the history and background of graffiti. Basically, graffiti is the name for letters or images that are painted onto property. The earliest types of graffiti appeared in ancient times, in the form of cave paintings and writings but modern day graffiti arose during Ancient Rome and Greece where

images were carved into monuments and walls representing love declarations, political rhetoric and thoughts. Today graffiti displays messages of social and political ideas and it is normally intertwined with hip hop culture. A famous graffiti picture dates back to the 1920s during Word War II and is called "Kilroy was Here." Graffiti is also used as a memorial for certain occasions. After learning the history and background of graffiti, I consider it a form of art more strongly than I did before because I believe it is an expressions of feelings and thoughts.

I wish I'd run with this style. It obviously evokes SEAK on some level, but there's still some room for me to mess about without totally stepping on his toes. Especially with keeping away from the fully rendered look. I went in a completely different direction after this, though. Maybe some of the automatic drawings are getting back to this, but those are really organic where this is definitely technology fueled.

Wildstyle is a complicated and intricate form of graffiti. Due to its complexity, it is often very hard to read by people who are not familiar with it. Usually, this form of graffiti incorporates interwoven and overlapping letters and shapes. It may include arrows, spikes, and other decorative elements depending on the technique used. The numerous layers and shapes make this style extremely difficult to produce homogeneously, which is why developing an original style in this field is seen as one of the greatest artistic challenges to a graffiti writer. Wildstyle pieces are also known as “burners”, meaning “hot” as fire. Wildstyles are seen as the one of most complicated and difficult tags and are often used to get an artist’s work seen (rather than to put a political message or any other kind of message across).

Many artists have different elements to add to their wildstyle that gain that writer a good deal of respect within the underground subculture.
